13 Days and Counting!

•October 29, 2008 • 2 Comments

So if you didn’t know there are 13 days left before the ever-popular group of man-boys roll into town for a  once in a life-time truly fabulous 90s reunion concert. New Kids On The Block people!!!!!

So there are 5 of us (I think) going to this concert on the 11th of November and I thought in honor of this awesome event I would give us something to put us in the 90s pop spirit.

A little TOP 13 LIST. (13 because there are 13 days left!) LIke the 12 days of Christmas but not really because I don’t have a song to go with this list. Anyway…I digress.

13 Most Popular Catch Phrases of the 1990s! (please feel free to add to this list as you see fit) In no particular order.

1) Right on!!

2) Phat! (Huh? Where did this come from?)

3) As if!

4) Not!

5) Totally Extreme!!!!!

6) Waaaaaassssssupppp?

7) Talk to the hand! (I would have gotten slapped if I said this at any point!)

8.) That’s da bomb! (Oh yeah…definitely said this one, I’m ashamed to admit. Again…where did this come from?)

9) Yo’ Mamma (Yeah…pretty sure I never said this one)

10) Sike! (I might have said this. Maybe).

11) Cowabunga! (Oh Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles–I liked the the movie. I think I liked Raphael–if you can really have a feeling toward a giant mutated talking turtle. But what can I say…I liked ninjas and who didn’t? They wore masks and just popped out of nowhere!)

12) Catch you on the flipside.

13) Don’t have a cow, man! (where did this one come from? I can just see Penelope from SNL doing her skit…uh I had like 3 baby cows come out of my abdomen…that’s how much of a cow I had…I flip out more than anyone else in the world…it’s going to be in the Guiness Book of World Records.)

Yeah! 13 days and counting! :0)

Oh...too exciting.

Oh...too exciting.

Change.

There are a million things I will never understand about my life. I don’t know why certain things happen, or how you eventually get through them and I don’t particulary care, I suppose. I just wish they wouldn’t happen. I’m tired of this year. I am so incredibly tired of all the change. Of all the heartache. And I thought things had finally turned around. Even with everything else going on; I was happy. I was so very happy.

Love Story

•September 25, 2008 • Leave a Comment

I found a new favorite song. It’s adorable. And it completely fits my personality. Taylor Swift sings this song called “Love Story.” You should YouTube it and find the video for it. I’ve watched it no less than 10 times. Seriously. That’s how cute it is. If you love old romantic stories like Pride and Prejudice you’ll love it.

I think I like it so much because I can relate to it, there are parts of myself and part of my relationship in this song. Not that my life is made up of ballgowns and old stories, but that in my heart I am an old-soul and a true romantic. I believe there’s a prince for everyone…but more than that I believe that there’s a princess in every woman. And I think that’s the beauty of music–we can relate to it.

Just a little bit of the song:

Romeo take me somewhere we can be alone.
I’ll be waiting all there’s left to do is run.
You’ll be the prince and I’ll be the princess
It’s a love story, baby, just say yes.

Romeo save me, they’re trying to tell me how to feel
This love is difficult but it’s real.
Don’t be afraid, we’ll make it out of this mess.
It’s a love story, just say yes.

I got tired of waiting
Wondering if you were ever coming around
My faith in you was fading
When I met you on the outskirts of town, and I said

Romeo save me I’ve been feeling so alone.
I keep waiting for you but you never come.
Is this in my head, I don’t know what to think
He knelt to the ground and pulled out a ring,

And said,

Marry me Juliet you’ll never have to be alone
I love you and that’s all I really know
I talked to your dad, you’ll pick out a white dress
It’s a love story baby just say yes.

I love how she keeps saying, say yes. Oh I just love this song. Ahhh…love. Doesn’t it just give you the butterflies? I love when I get butterflies. And I love how hearing a song like this puts me in a better mood and makes me hopeful.

Sweetness

So I just have to take a couple moments and brag just a little bit about my honey. He did something yesterday so sweet, it made me feel like a princess. :)

I’ve been having a somewhat stressful last couple of weeks–stuff with family, friends, etc. Well yesterday morning I think all the stress just caught up to me and I was just bummed and a bit depressed. Well I get home yesterday on my lunch break and there sitting on my table was a big white box with a pink bow and a little pink card. Inside this fabulous box were cakes. Mini, beautiful heavenly -tasting little bunt cakes. Oh SOOOOOO good. There were 2 champagne cakes with pink glittery frosting (shared these with my mom), two chocolate ones with dark chocolate icing (ate one of these for lunch dessert today), a heart shaped one that was very rich and wonderful (ate this yesterday for lunch) and an Italian wedding cake one with icing in the shape of a flower. So I have two more to finish out the week! How sweet is that–literally and figuratively.

I was just so touched. My heart did a nice little squeeze. :)   He did that just for me and I felt so special. :)

He got these at 3 Women and an Oven. So yummy. Check it out.

New Link

Okay…so thanks to Katie I found out that my video in the previous post didn’t work, apparently because the “organization” who made it has claimed it. Yeah. So if you watch this you’ll find that even more amusing. Anyway…I updated a link to their website to see the video. Or you can go on YouTube and find it there under “renewed mind is key” or something to that extent.

Interesting thing to note. When I googled The Way International–the group who “claimed” this video there were probably 4-5 results on the first page that claimed this religious organization had cult-like tendencies. See for yourself. Interesting dance moves for a cult following.

The Renewed Laughter

•September 19, 2008 • 1 Comment

Take 2 minutes and 50 some-odd seconds and indulge me please. Watch this video. I would be in trouble if I went to this church. I’d be labeled not only as a sinner, a hypocrite but probably a heathen too. All because I’d laugh. Hysterically.

And definitely watch the whole thing–if you don’t you’ll miss the icing on the cake, the moonwalk and an M.C. Hammer-esq breakdown. The only thing that makes me feel bad about laughing about this is that I believe the “performers” are truly heartfelt in their presentation.

Tell me what you think.

A Happy Period?

•September 15, 2008 • 1 Comment

As I’m fixing my lunch, the television is on in the background…I don’t have cable, as you all know so I’m stuck with either day-time soap opera, Maury or the View. I usually switch between Maury and the View–the View because I do like many of their guests and Maury because I’m fascinated with the stories about the paternity tests….John…you ARE the father!!!! And the crowd goes wild! They’re hilarious!

Anyway, I digress. Like I said, while I was fixing my lunch a commercial came on for a feminine hygiene product–I can’t even remember what company it was but the last phrase was “Have a happy period–Always.” Oh..maybe it was Always who made it…duh. Ha. Anywho…what a bunch of bologna!!!!!!!!!!!!! No woman in their right mind would agree to such false advertising! A happy period. Can we say oxymoron? Seriously.

There is not one single thing that makes me happy about my time of the month…well…okay I can think of one. It means I’m not…you know–which is a really good thing in my life right now. Not that I don’t want the babies eventually…but not today. Other than that, there is nothing, nada, zilch, null, zero things that make me “happy” I have my period.

Do those advertisers really think wishing me a “happy period” makes me want to go buy that product? Absolutely not! If anything that commercial reinforces my decision NOT to buy from Always. I’d rather buy a tampon from a company that’s main message is “Yeah…it sucks, we know. But if you’re going to be bloated, cranky, hungry and uncomfortable, at least well save you the supreme embarrassment of leakage.”

Seriously people. I’m irritated.

Girlfriends

•September 9, 2008 • 3 Comments

So I’ve had some time the last several days to think about the relationships in my life and how they affect me both positively and negatively. I’ve had time to think about the people I love and and their affect on my life, my heart and my pschye.

And I’ve had a lot of time to think about my girlfriends and how amazing they are. Not that I don’t have other amazing people in my life, but God just knows exactly what women need; each other. And when I’m upset, when I’m happy, when I’m anxious, when I’m crazy, when I’m emotional, when I’m calm, when I’m patient and when I’m not my girlfriends support me through everything. (Not that my honey doesnt–AJ is more than I could have hoped for in someone, he makes me laugh more than anyone and he makes my heart strong and my days happy—but let’s face it–Men understand and love and cherish a good many parts of us…but there are things about women that they just can’t relate to–and vice versa).

So I just wanted to take a couple minutes to thank those ladies who’ve been amazing friends to me the not only the last tough 6 months but who’ve loved me through everything else. I’m so blessed. :)

I’m BAAAAAAAAACK!!!!!!!!!!!!

Okay seriously. Being without the internet in your home has to be on the top 50 most horrible things that can happen as a home-owner or apartment dweller. My free internet went away. Sad. BUT thanks to my super suave, super sexy boyfriend I now have a fabulous little internet stick thing from Sprint that I can take ANYWHERE and it’s cheaper than I thought and he got the actual device for free! Woo-hoo. He deserves kisses and homemade dinner and some lovin’ for that for sure!! :)

Anyway. So sorry (to Katie in particular, I know she felt my internet absence acutely. :) ) that I have not been blogging. I don’t think that’s a “Lenexa-approved activity” (I liked that phrase, Robyn!). So I had to wait to post. And I was getting ready to write last night about all of the fabulous, mundane, saddening, frustrating, glorious, funny things that have been going on the last however many weeks and I got a little overwhelmed and I turned the computer off.

Then today it hit me. I HAVE enormous news!  (Most of you know this already) But I truly feel this momentous occasion calls for a blog post. ROSCOE. He’s so cute. He’s sitting with Felony on the floor chewing on raw-hides. Ahh the life of a dog. Roscoe is the puppy my handsome man adopted a few weeks ago–but he’s just as equally my little man (chihuahua) as he is AJ’s–especiallysince Roscoe LOVES spending the night with us. :) He loves Felony the most I think. She likes him too and sometimes they kiss noses, but only when they’re not trying to steal each other’s bones.

I wasn’t sure how Felony would react, but I think she adores him. She’s his big mama and protects him against unruly dogs at the park. I think they talk to each other; and I’d love to know what they’re saying. I’ve not yet found a funny Roscoe voice…but it will come. :P

Anyway, I thought a picture would be appropriate (Thanks to Angela for taking it).

Me and the little cutie

Me and the little cutie

Well best get back to work.

Until next time. (And next time will not be a month down the road–I promise!)

Celebrity Sighting!

•July 28, 2008 • 2 Comments

So for two weekends in a row I’ve seen a celebrity while out and about. This sort of thing never happens to me; in fact the only celebrities I’ve seen up close and personal are James Taylor (woo-hoo got his autograph) and Militia from American Gladiators (the new one–he was ginormous!). Well I’m sad to say most people of my generation albeit a few of my close friends and my boyfriend do not know who JT is and probably fewer than that actually watch American Gladiators, although I find it hilariously entertaining–especially the big viking looking lady–she’s ENORMOUS! I’ll sit with AJ watching it and say things like, “Oh I could probably do that event” or “I would get pummeled by that event.” I think he usually agrees with the latter statement rather than the first!

Anyway I digress. So I’ve had the same celebrity encounter the last two weekends in a row down at the new and fabulous Power and Light district. Rod Stewart is alive and well in Kansas City. Seriously. He’s a lot shorter than I imagined but his hair is very floppy and gray just as you would imagine it to be. Rod Stewart–Can you believe it?

No…not really. He’s just a look alike-I know many of you were frantically finding your copy of his most recent disaster of “Great American Songbook” to take down for autographs. It was just a look alike. But I’ve seen him twice now…well actually 3 times once on the main level and twice in Rock Bar. He really does look like the real thing, like they brought to life a copy from the wax museum. Someone in Rock Bar even yelled out, “Hey!! ROD STEWART!”

Okay now seriously. Why would you encourage people to think you look like Rod Stewart? Really…he is not all that great looking nor does he have the swoon factor that he must have had years ago to warrant his success. I don’t get the appeal. I can understand playing it up if you look a little bit like Brad Pitt, George Clooney or the ever-scrumptious Taye Diggs…but Rod Stewart…that’s one you should play down for sure!!

So if you’re out at P&L and you see Rod; take his picture…I forgot my camera!
